Daytona Beach Assisted Living FAQ’s
What is assisted living?
Assisted living is a long-term residential community that offers personal care services to older adults. Typically, assisted living residents need help with one or more activities of daily living (ADLs), such as taking their medications, bathing, dressing, eating meals, or moving about. Trained staff are available 24-7 to assist with ADLs. Residents pick and choose the support they need, when they need it.
What are assisted living apartments?
An assisted living facility, or the term we prefer “assisted living community,” offers apartments for residents while also providing personal care assistance. Residents have a personalized home to relax or cook and can choose from different floor plan models. The community is designed to bring all the amenities within easy reach of residents while still offering independence, activity and choice. At Sunscape, residents not only have their own spacious apartments but access to a landscaped courtyard, onsite fitness centers/spas, bistro & coffee bar, and personalized wellness programs.
What amenities and services does assisted living provide?
We provide apartment amenities such as housekeeping, laundry services, maintenance and repairs and scheduled transportation. For personalized care services, Sunscape's trained team members offer personalized Salus wellness programs tailored to each resident along with 24-hour personal assistance for bathing, grooming, and dressing.
When is it time to move to an assisted living community?
Every person has different care needs and living desires. So, the choice on when to move to an assisted living community may be based on your personal decision. Typically, adults who require daily assistance with personal care tasks may enjoy living in these communities. These communities do not usually take in residents who need more advanced medical care.
What is the difference between assisted living and nursing homes?
Assisted living focuses on providing personalized care within a senior living community. Nursing homes offer more advanced medical care in a more clinical setting. While staff is available to provide help for residents in an assisted living community, you have more privacy and freedom to move about the grounds on your own. You also have a private apartment to have for yourself, or to share with a spouse, at the assisted living community. A nursing home focuses on 24/7 nursing care and monitoring of residents to ensure they receive timely medical treatments when needed. The resident may also share a room with another resident.
Does Medicaid pay for assisted living?
For assisted living communities in Florida, residents may receive help paying for personal care through the Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care plan. The individual Assisted Living for the Elderly (ALE) waivers are no longer separate options as the services offered by these waivers are now available through this program. To qualify, a Florida resident must meet both financial and medical eligibility requirements. A comprehensive assessment is performed by Medicaid personnel to see if you meet the state's medical level of care.
